I recall Ginger P. has given the states a terrific basic recipe that you can change to suit your ain tastes! My husband and I actually like bold flavors, so here are my modifications. I seasoned the meat heavily by adding garlic pulverization, onion powder, common salt, pepper, basil, and a small compression of scarlet pepper. I likewise, added one bag of frozen mixed veggies, thawed in the microwave. In one case I had my meat mixture, onion, spices, and veggies combined, I added i can of cream of mushroom soup. Also, I doubled the potatoes. I mashed them with i small can of evaporated milk, and 1/2 stick of butter, 1 egg, common salt, pepper, and some garlic pulverization. Oh and every chance I go now, I substitute ground CHICKEN for ground beefiness! I saw information technology before this year at the grocery and decided to endeavour information technology. It is And so good, and non at all similar the flavour of ground turkey which tin be very stong. This dish turned out Then good and was very flavorful! Play effectually with it and have fun :-)

Considering I relish bolder flavors & shepherd's pie tin be somewhat banal, I made this for a church potluck & doubled the ingredients - using 1 lb of spicy breakfast sausage & i lb of lean footing beef (similar my family does meatloaf), browned the meats with the minced garlic & diced onion (instead of sauteed in oil) & drained the fat. Added a parcel of dry beef & onion soup mix with 2 cups of water & brought that to a simmering boil. Disolved a few tablespoons of corn starch in some other cup of cold water adding slowly to mix. Voila! Instant bulky/onion gravy! Spread that out in my baking dish & layered the tuckered diced tomatoes, light-green beans, with an added a can of drained corn. Lightly salted the layerd veggies. Ever running late, I chose to apply boxed dehydrated real potatoes (4 cups of h2o, 1 cup milk, 1/2 stick butter, ane/2 tsp salt, boiled then added 4 cups of dry out potatoes. Instead of the boosted loving cup of water, I used a cup of sour cream & then mixed in the beaten egg)! Using a disposable forcefulness-bag & a wide tip, topped everything with the high peaked irish potato stars. (Advent and presentation is everything at church potlucks!) Nicely filled a 9X13 deep baking dish. Baked 25 minutes until murphy peaks started to become calorie-free golden brown, topped with the cheese & baked another 10 minutes until the cheese melted. Voila! The ladies were impressed & asked me how I did it ... ... That's always a wonderful compliment for a guy who enjoys cooking & good eats!

I made this with a few modifications, subsequently reading other reviews, and evaluating my pantry. Firstly, I ommitted the oil, because I didn't retrieve information technology was necessary, and added more than fat. I browned the basis beef with the chopped onion, and about 2-3 teaspoons garlic pulverisation, every bit I didn't have whatever garlic on hand. Later draining the fat from the beefiness, I added 1 can of cream of mushroom soup, and half a packet of dry onion soup mix. I and so added the green beans and tomatoes, and likewise a can of corn. It was plenty to fill a 9x13 dish, so I doubled the potatoes. I really used 6, because they were smaller. I didn't add whatever water to the potatoes, simply a tiny bit of milk for creaminess, and stuck with one egg, even though I had tripled the potatoes. I made a mistake and topped it with cheese earlier baking, instead of afterwards on, only it turned out just fine. This is a wonderful dish that has been added to my listing of staple meals for our family unit. My husband just loved it, and we didn't even put ketchup on information technology! (That'due south saying a lot; I eat ketchup on everything.) And then thanks for a peachy recipe!
12/06/2006
Excellent basic recipe to run with. As a proposition for a more "dishy" dish, try tweaking the topping by mixing the cheese into the mashed potato topping and likewise calculation a bit of sour foam and chopped green onions. Lovely and rich!
12/06/2006
This could be an excellent base for your own pie. Offset - non enough mashed taters! Double information technology, plus the cheese (mix in the cheese with the taters and make sure you add milk and butter when you mash. Heavenly. Secondly, there is no gravy with this recipe. I usually add beef broth thickened with a roux to the meat and veggies. Too, the meat is bland so I added a fleck of garlic powder and a couple teaspoons of worcestershire sauce and it really made a difference. We're Australian, so this pie is daily fare in Oz. Sometimes I've even added a couple teaspoons of horseradish to the potatoes - a little goes a long mode, simply it sure adds a lovely taste. Good basic recipe.

Fancy food it is non, but a downright awesome staple food it is! Tweaked it a trivial using corn and peas equally it seemed the versions I ate in London and in Boston had these veggies. I was tempted not to add the egg to the mashed potatoes, simply don't...some kind of reaction happens and the taters fluff up tremendously, making them not then heavy and much easier to spread over the beef mixture. As other reviewers suggested, I added quite a fleck of seasoning to my gustatory modality. Definitely a keeper. Thanks, Ginger!
04/18/2003
This did non knock our socks off only it'south an like shooting fish in a barrel recipe to play effectually with...adding or taking away what yous like. Instead of adding the canned tomatoes and dark-green beans, I used a tin can of love apple soup with vegetables and a tin can of corn. I also seasoned my ground beef really well, using different spices to forbid that "bland" taste. I topped this with a handfull of cheddar. You can as well prepare this the night before and leave in the fridge. Just don't add the cheese until your ready to bake.
10/30/2002
This recipe turned out crawly!! I agee with some of the others to use more than potatoes. I used for small-scale potatoes, which would be equivalent to the two called for in this recipe. Adjacent time I will use four large potatoes. I also added a dash of carmine vino and seasoning common salt to the ground beef before sautee-ing. Very flavorful!! Will definately make this once more!!!
09/10/2006
I seasoned the meat with taco seasoning, left out the onion and basil. Used a fresh diced tomato, canned green beans ad corn. Using iv red potatoes, adding two tbl butter and some cream cheese. Turned out FANTASTIC.
09/23/2007
Good base recipe though I fabricated some modificiations, hence the 4 stars. After living in New England for 13 years where Shepherd's Pie is a staple, this dish was as at abode with me every bit my family. Living almost the beach in Florida for the past 10 years, I oasis't thought about this dish in ages. I substituted 1 cup of sweetness peas for the green beans (don't care for them) and one cup of sweetness corn instead of the diced tomatoes (never had or heard of tomatoes in Shepherd'southward Pie), added 1 prepared cup of chocolate-brown gravy mix poured over my meat and veggie mixture, mixed in 2 tablespoons of Hidden Valley ranch dry seasoning to my mashed potatoes before topping my casserole, and sprinkled a shredded cheese blend on height of the whole thing during its last 5 minutes of cooking. And in true New England fashion, I topped each serving with a dollop of butter on before digging in. Succulent! Nosotros're having it once again tonight for leftovers with some homemade crescent rounds sprinkled with garlic and parmesan, and I expect forward to enjoying more of it for dejeuner during the week. Next fourth dimension I'll top information technology with either homemade garlic or cheddar potatoes. Thanks for reminding me how great this recipe is. This has to run a best close 2d to mac & cheese for comfort food :)
02/21/2002
Actually proficient and piece of cake! I used ground turkey instead of beef, and corn instead of tomatoes. To make it really quick use those "But Potatoes" that are in the refrigerated department of the supermarket. An entire package was just the perfect corporeality!
01/03/2005
This is a groovy base recipe for Sheperd's pie. I would not suggest following exactly because information technology sounds like it would come out pretty bland. I browned the ground beef with the onion and most 3 garlic cloves. Afterward draining, I added the basil, salt and pepper, garlic powder, onion pulverisation, the green beans, frozen corn, carrots, a small tin can of love apple sauce and a little bit of h2o. I let all that simmer together for about 15 minutes. In the concurrently I whipped upward the mashed potatoes (I used instant), added sour cream to them then put everything in the oven. Information technology was succulent! I'm looking forward to the leftovers tomorrow ;).
03/15/2012
This is a adept shepherd's pie and very easy to adjust to personal tastes. After reading various reviews, I adjusted as follows: omitted basil and tomatoes, added finely chopped celery, carrots, few dashes of Worcestershire to my meat mixture. Dusted westward/ 3 Tbsp flour and added beefiness goop for a gravy. To the potatoes I added prepared horseradish to taste and used a cheddar westward/ black pepper cheese (cracker barrel), nuance of milk and 2 Tbsp butter. Omitted the h2o, kept the egg in. I have noticed in the by that calculation an egg to your mashed potatoes helps them non to melt/disappear into the gravy/beef mix - besides provides a nice browning. This gave the potatoes a trivial zip. Bask!
03/31/2000
try other vegies, such equally corn or peas and use double the mashed potatoes.
11/22/2004
My hubby brought home a lb of ground beef and I only didn't want some other meatloaf or hamburgers. Then I plant this recipe, and it actually was very skilful.. I kind of used the recipe as a "shell" and it turned out well. Its the type of recipe you can tweak to your liking. I cooked the onions a few mins and so browned the beefiness westward/the garlic in it. The meat MUST exist seasoned well.... I added a LOT of garlic, table salt, pepper, seasoned salt, garlic powder, and sage. I added a tin can of a green bean/corn/carrot medley to the cooked beefiness mixture as well every bit some french fried onions which I had left over. I fabricated instant mashed potatoes (used the "ii-3" servings which was perfect) to which I did add the egg and h2o (about half of what was in the recipe). Information technology cooked longer than what the recipe said (I think it cooked for about 35 mins before the potatoes got brown, I added some cheese to the top, cooked it another 5 mins, and YUM. It was quick, easy and versatile. I'm certain i'll exist making it over again!!!
02/thirteen/2002
I besides contradistinct this recipe and it turned out swell!! Most cooks will know to drain the excess fat from the meat however information technology doesn't say that. I used corn, fresh sliced mushrooms, and diced plum tomatoes. As well used Ukon Gold potatoes (three medium size) and substituted the water with low fatty milk when mashing. Make sure you lot apply salt or a salt mixture seasoning and pepper in the potatoes and meat mixture.
09/23/2005
I started out by following the directions excactly only when I tasted the meat mixture, it was a little bland. To fix this I mixed together a 1/two a can of Cream of Mushroom soup and a 1/ii a pack of Lipton Onion Soup mix with about a ane/2 cup of h2o. Then I added information technology to the meat. This made the best gravy. I also addded sour cream and a piffling extra butter to the potatoes. My family loved this dish. I will be sure to brand this again.
11/16/2010
And then like shooting fish in a barrel, So delicious! Okay, and then I added an entire tin (14.5) of diced tomatoes (italian mode) as opposed to the fresh, same for the green beans and a dash of worchestire, roughly ii tblsps of ketchup to the meat. I added a dollup of sour creme to the potatoes (instant), brushed the top with the egg and added shredded cheese at the concluding few minutes. Yummy! Served with dinner rolls.
03/26/2011
I ever knew it could be so piece of cake! So proficient, I besides add chopped carrots and a handfull of peas :) and season with johnny'due south
03/27/2012
I needed a fast recipe in a compression to use some ground beef. I have ii sick kids and wanted to requite them a warm in your tummy, comfy repast. I just had a baby and was way too tired to think of what to make. Thanks for helping united states of america have a yummy dinner :D
11/01/2011
Good recipe as is merely switched it up a bit. After browning basis beef, onion and garlic, I added au jus beef base 2 T., green beans and creamed corn, no tomatoes or basil. Topped with cheese and and then potatoes which I crisscrossed with a fork. Sprinkled with paprika and cayenne. Yum!!
09/21/2006
This was ane of our favorite dishes growing up so it was a serious trip downwards memory lane last night when I made it. Information technology's almost the exact recipe that my mom would make, the only deviation is that she ever added a can of tomato soup to the beef mixture. It was delicious. Thanks so much for the recipe!
02/22/2011
Good recipe that you tin can add to. Information technology totally won hubby's blessing, so I'm all for it. :) I added corn in addition to the green beans, and taking another reveiwer'south advice I also added half a can of cream of mushroom soup. I fabricated the mashed potatoes to proceed summit just similar I would ordinary mashed potatoes (except I added their steps also), I recollect otherwise they would have been also bland for our tastes. All in all, a keeper. Thanks!
10/18/2007
This was a really easy recipe. I never tried shepards pie before and it came out wonderful. I read the other reviews and made extra mashed potatos, as well I omitted the tomato. I like tomatoes, only I actually forgot to use them. I did add a little thin gravy to the meat, and used some canned vegetables since that is all I had on hand. Information technology came out wonderful, I had lots of compliments and there was nothing left the next 24-hour interval. Practiced starter recipe.
05/09/2006
Very good. Be sure to add common salt and pepper to taste....it needs both. I also added a can of cream of mushroom soup to the meat mixture. Instant potatoes worked great. My hubby loves it, then this ane'south a keeper!
02/fourteen/2011
I thought this was great! Didn't change anything, and my husband and half-dozen yr old loved it.
08/29/2011
Family loved it...equally others stated I added a few more spices (blackness pepper and onion pulverization) but non too much. Also added in more than potatoes as well.
06/19/2007
Great recipe. I used a can of cream of mushroom soup and a bag of frozen mixed veggies and my family unit loved information technology!
04/09/2003
Good Shepherds Pie, Ginger. For personal taste I fabricated the following modifications for my family. Omit tomato and use two-14oz can Italian-style stewed tomatoes, utilise 2t basil, 1t garlic pulverization, i cup frozen corn, and 3 medium potatoes. Omit water.Everything else stays the aforementioned. Be sure to put the egg in the mashed potatoes. Its a good binder for the potatoes, and they fluff when baked. Yummy. Cheers Ginger
03/20/2011
Never heard of a traditional Shepherd's Pie incorporating tomatoes earlier but perhaps I am to exist corrected. Added a can of diced tomatoes, fresh light-green beans were yucky here so diced some carrots and added some frozen peas and corn. Added a bit of Worcester sauce to the mixture. Didn't add an egg to the mashed potatoes;just fabricated my regular mashed and sprinkled paprika on summit.
12/14/2011
This was a very easy recipe, however I wished I would have read the other comments prior to making this dish. The dish was very bland, and it would have tasted better if the meat was spiced upwards prior to laying information technology out in the casserole dish.
10/24/2007
I had wanted to make Shepherd's Pie from scratch, but did not intendance for most of the recipes I saw. This is a Dandy basic recipe! I did omit the tomato, seasoned the ground beefiness with house seasoning and parsely, and added a tin can of cream of mushroom soup. I also omited the water in the potatoes, using butter and milk instead. I too added the cheese to the potatoes and dabbed butter on the superlative to help brown. everyone loved information technology! My teenage son had 3 bowls, and his girlfriend had two. The leftovers did not make it 24 hours in the fridge!
04/18/2012
Came out proficient but needs more spices.
12/06/2006
This is NOT shepherd'southward pie, which is fabricated with lamb mince (shepherds, lamb, geddit?). It is COTTAGE pie. Other than that, non a bad recipe (for COTTAGE pie!), though I would take used a tin of ruby tomatoes, plus a dessert spoon Branston pickle, plus some fresh oregano. Amazed to encounter how many people revise information technology by adding cream and other hugely filling substitutes ... It's fine as it is.
03/27/2011
Very adept. Not too dry & not too soupy. I never would have thought to put basil in this kind of dish, but it compliments it well. Would work well with other vegetables besides. In fact I added corn, & my husband requested carrots & greenish peppers next time. NEXT Time - that means he wants me to get in again. :)
12/nineteen/2011
It was a hit! I really liked that it bursting with amazing season. Thanks for such a great recipe!
07/27/2011
This was piece of cake and good, only I would add together some more flavoring to it. Nosotros had to utilise hot sauce.
12/21/2000
After reading other comments, I fabricated sure to add seasonings... table salt, pepper, and a bit of cayenne pepper along with a splash of scarlet wine. I besides used mushrooms, corn and peas, since we similar those veggies in casseroles. I doubled the mashed potatoes and sprinkled paprika on top, along with the cheese. My husband gave it a thumbs upwardly and asked if he could accept leftovers for dejeuner to work the next day. Slap-up recipe!
05/02/2002
This was a big striking. I added a small-scale can of tomato sauce instead of the diced tomatoes. I will make information technology again and again.Thank you for a cracking recipe
06/30/2002
I tried this recipe and found it very easy to make. I did observe it a bit banal so the second time around I added some seasoned salts and barbecue sauce to the ground beef. It really helped the flavour. I would recommend information technology for the easiness to prepare just would advise adding your own special seasoning for added gustation.
10/30/2011
This is a peachy base recipe for Shepard'southward pie. I swapped some of the onion with chives and go with thyme and rosemary instead of basil which I recall are all corking compliments to the potatoes. Use any veggies you have on hand. -Add together a half can of foam of mushroom and a couple tablespoons of sour cream to the beefiness right before it goes in the goulash dish for extra juicy meat and gravy.
02/03/2009
I found this recipe considering I was looking for something to do with the ground meat I had for dinner and couldn't stand the thought of my usual mainstays. This was very good. I know many people exercise not similar when other cooks change the recipe, only I had to make some changes simply because I didn't take all the stated ingredients. And then I substituted boxed mashed potatoes for real (I use extra milk and existent butter to aid with the imitation potatoes) and canned mixed veggies for the tomatoes and I added a petty worstechire. Everything else was the same every bit the recipe. Information technology was really practiced. My husband said information technology was as good every bit the shephard's pie at Cheesecake Factory. Like one reviewer said, this is a recipe that is basic and you tin can change up when you want. Cracking recipe that I will use again and over again!
02/04/2006
You lot gave me the idea and I created my own. I used 1 lb. of lean ground beefiness and one big onion and browned in pan. Remove to a bowl and made a roux of one teas. flour, 1 teas. butter and 3/4 cup beef goop. Returned beef to pan and added one small can mushrooms, salt, pepper and 1/two teas. cajun seasoning. Layered in 8x8" baking dish along with 3 cut upward cooked carrots and ane/2 tin can drained corn. Acme with mashed potatoes (mixed with sour cream, milk and a piddling grated cheese). and baked for 20 or 30 minutes. My hubby and I loved information technology and ate nearly all at one meal. Use whatever veggies you have on hand. I served information technology with a flossy lettuce. The Cajun seasoning did this recipe wonders.
03/16/2011
I liked the basic recipe, but lacked proper ingredients. Made with x-12 small-scale crimson potatoes, mashed, w/ 1/4 stick of butter, ~ane/4 loving cup of water. 2-12.v cans of Chicken Chest (precooked), 1 tin can of light-green beans, small onion. Wife loved it. Daughter requested corn and peas in lieu of green beans.
12/06/2006
This is an awful recipe for shepherd's pie. My boyfriend makes his with onion, carrots, cream of mushroom, extra precipitous cheddar cheese (he loves extra sharp, but for me it's as well strong), and footing beef. He tops it with those pre-made biscuits that have layers (he separates the biscuits into thin pieces and lays them on top to cover the pie). I wonder if I can go him to let me mail service the recipe on here former.
06/21/2014
Great recipe that great on it's ain terms Merely is great with your personal add together-tos. Cheers-Allrecipes & Ginger!!! Like many of the other reviewers, I also modified the recipe. My girl had oral surgery n I needed to do/cook "soft" recipes. I remembered when she & her sister were children, they loved SP. I was hoping that my grandchildren would, too. And so, I hit the books looking for a similar recipe to the one, i cooked nearly 27 years ago. Ginger'south came close & was at hit. I added frozen corn & used a tub of prepare made Bob Evans mashed potatoes. I only heated information technology once & spread it over the gr. Beef mixture. Information technology browned well & I added the cheddar cheese. Oh my, they loved it! Next time will try the complete recipe. Thank y'all, Ginger from my little family, the Yorks!!
07/11/2011
My family simply tin't get enough of this all inclusive meal. I add peas and a can of cream of mushroom to the basis beef mixture. It certain makes for an crawly gravy.
11/18/2011
This is a very proficient recipe, however, I added more garlic, Johnny'southward seasoning, cream of celery soup, mexican corn to the hamburger mixture. In the mashed potatoes, I used milk, and nearly i/4 c. of margarine and omitted the water.
12/xix/2002
Good recipe! I've never made shepherds pie before and I was delighted with the results! Equally far as the other reviews about non enough seasonings: Table salt and pepper don't ever need to be listed in a recipe, a good cook volition sneak a gustatory modality as they go and add seasonings as desired. Each family has unlike tastes. That's what I did...a little nuance of sea salt, ground pepper, onion powder, dried herbs etc... Very versatile recipe, used ground turkey instead, we're not big on beefiness.... but that didn't really change the recipe at all. I do concord with "more mashed potatoes" that way you'll have plenty to spread over the ENTIRE top of the dish. Thanks GINGER!!
02/18/2011
This was a great easy recipe. After reading reviews I added vegts . . . corn, light-green beans, carrots, onion and used some tomato spaghetti sause (had no other tomatoes) and used 5 potatoes . . which was needed to cover information technology upwardly. . .it was cute to look at and very practiced. All the reviews were helpful. . . new ideas!
03/24/2003
Equally a vegetarian, I was looking for a recipe I could use burger crumbles (vegetarian footing beefiness) in. This recipe turned out fantabulous with the exchange. It is pretty rare that I can brand a vegetarian meal that is then quick and hearty. My husband (large meat eater) even loved information technology! I used instand potatoes which turned out fine and, I doubtable, much easier. The burger crumbles cut out one-half of the fat and calories of the original dish. I also think canned diced tomatoes, tuckered, work best.
11/13/2011
This recipe is kind of bland.
12/xvi/2014
This was good but I gave it 4 stars instead of v considering information technology was bland. I recommend adding table salt and pepper to the ground beef and potatoes for boosted flavor.
05/10/2011
This was pretty practiced! I forgot to add the tomatoes, but a splash of ketchup on top when served makes upwardly for it. I added carrots, corn, broccoli, and mashed upwards quite a bit more potatoes. All because I only have a 3 quart casserole dish. I'll be making this over again for sure!
08/27/2010
Very adept...i used corn instead of beans. I also added some enchilda sauce and taco bell hot sauce and information technology made it and then good.
02/03/2011
I liked it merely my husband only idea it was ok. I do call back it is a good, easy, and quick throw together dish that is easy when you are brusk on time. Thanks for the recipe!
06/01/2011
Since my son won't eat tomatoes, I used a tin of French onion soup instead. Next fourth dimension I'll attempt cream of mushroom soup. I imagine whatever flavor soup would piece of work. No potatoes in the house, so I used instant instead, calculation only the egg to that. Also had no greenish beens in the business firm, and so I used peas. Out of Cheddar too, so I used Colby Jack. This recipe allows for substitutes on all ingredients, and I like that in a recipe. You don't ever take everything on mitt. Cheers for the recipe!
09/15/2010
This dish was actually good, but I'm giving information technology iv stars instead of 5 but considering I changed a few things. I used ii cups mixed vegetables in place of the tomatoes and green beans. I spruced information technology up with a niggling garlic pepper, and I added a dollop of sour cream and a teaspoon of horseradish mayo to the potatoes. Very yum!
02/12/2007
I really similar this recipe. I get in at least in one case a week. Instead of the onion, corn & tomatoes, I use a 16 oz bag frozen vegetables (Dark-green Giant Mixed vegetables) that is thawed. Brand sure to add salt & pepper to the meat & vegetable mixture & to the mashed potatoes. For the potatoes I don't add together the i/2 C of water. I too don't summit with the cheese. With the few moderations this recipe is a winner.
07/25/2007
Yum!! I concur with other reviewers, this recipe is a dandy starting point to add what you like, and it tastes great! Also it is simple and quick (+ my fourteen calendar month one-time picky eater gobbled upwardly all the veggies! need I say more!) I did make some changes -- added Worchestershire sauce & soy sauce to the ground beef every bit it was browning (the wort. sauce soaks into the meat, giving it a corking flavor). Then I also added cajun seasoning, salt, pepper, garlic powder & Italian seasoning. I added whatever frozen veggies I had (corn, green beans, peas) and fresh chopped love apple. I also made a gravy using a roux and beef bouillion, then poured it over the beef mixture in the goulash. The potatoes I used "pizza" shredded cheese mix (find it at grocery) and some parmesan, with butter, milk, salt, pepper. Popped it in the oven and information technology camr out "DE~LISH"! I would recommend this one and feel free to experiment, I think nearly annihilation would piece of work peachy in this recipe.
08/14/2007
This is a great base recipe. You can add every bit much or as few veggies as you like. I similar a lot of veggies and so I added ~ one/2cups: corn, carrots, celery, zucchini after I cooked the onion and ground beef. I also make a gravy base for the turkey/veggie combo which includes i tsp of chicken base of operations and ane cup of boiling h2o (y'all can use the water from the potatoes for actress flavour; to thicken employ 1 heaping tsp of flour mixed with 3 tbsp. cold water and add to the soup stock. Add this gravy to the veggie philharmonic for a fabulous flavour.
ten/08/2011
The recipe was skillful, just only was not great. Overall I was looking for more flavor, it was bland.
01/14/2003
This was adept, only there are a few things I would change the next time I made this. The first thing I would do is season the potatoes. If you brand this, any you lot do, make sure you flavour them well b/c this dish is flavorless without it. A previous reviewer said that information technology needed alot of common salt and pepper, and that's true. Other than this, the dish was easy to fix and was received well by my family. I had a peckish for this dish (which always reminds me of dejeuner at my elementary school).
05/05/2011
Non a hit with my family unit.
09/24/2009
Plant this recipe in "All Recipes Tried & True Slow Cooker & Casserole Superlative 200 Recipes" and cooked it up tonight. I made it particular-by-item and footstep-by-step in accord to the recipe and it turned our just great! Non just is it good as written, but I can see all sorts of possibilities for adjustments and additions every bit well. Whether it'southward called Shepherd'southward Pie or Cottage Pie, information technology equals a hearty and delicious comfort food dish! Cheers then much, Ginger!
02/23/2007
This was skillful just zippo special. I added corn instead of tomato. Peradventure it would have been meliorate with tomato, but I actually remember information technology needs some kind of sauce or gravy to hold it all together. I may effort it again with foam of mushroom soup.
06/21/2011
The flavor was proficient later on adding a few teaspoons of back-scratch and marjoram. Information technology was extremely runny and oily and should exist drained multiple times. They should of listed that in the recipe. I guess they felt it was common sense, but it is applied in a recipe to list all the steps involved in making a dish. Overall this dish was very tasty and good. But it does not "concord" together and is very oily so take that in consideration when deciding with dish to gear up it in!
09/28/2010
I made this recipe for a Tuesday Dinner, my 11 years quondam daughter loved information technology, she told me mom this is the best dinner always. I tell y'all why... I put greenish pepper onion tomatoes and cilantro in the blender, so she could't see whatsoever of the veggies. LOL I also omit the egg. and I added cilantro and garlic. I put everything in a blender and fabricated salsa and cook the m-beef and I added the salsa.
04/11/2011
This was a tasteless and soupy. Will not make information technology over again.
11/22/2014
As many have said, I wish I had looked at the reviews prior to making it. It was easy but very very bland. I will remember to drain off the fat adjacent time as there was quite a lot of liquid.
08/06/2014
Tried it and loved information technology but of course added a few things extra....had alot of people to melt for and so did one pound of ground beef and 1 pound of ground turkey browned the meats and added the chopped onion and then added garlic salt pepper and dried parsley. To the meat I added green beans corn tomatoes and peas. Turned out delish!!!

My mom use to make information technology. Another variable is pulled browned roast beef with tin of mushroom soup added before baking.

Followed recipe exactly except substituted corn for the light-green beans. It was mushy and bland. I'm a skilled cook, and then I was quite surprised at how this turned out. Had to smother information technology in garlic salt & ceyenne pepper. There was 1/2 C of standing water in the bottom even tho I tuckered the corn & beefiness. If u try this, add lots of seasoning, make sure the layer of mashed potatoes is thin. And add some kind of thickener. Mine didn't even stand up & no matter how long i cooked it, wouldn't brown. I'thou certain it could be improved upon if yous're creative.

This was okay. I added some corn and doubled the amount of potatoes.

I fabricated this for my fiance and he admittedly loved it... he kept raving on and on about to his friends and family. Passed this one on to my mother besides! Information technology's definitely a keeper. Will make this once more and once again.

This recipe was proficient, even though you may recall that it is weird with light-green beans and tomatoes. It is actually very skilful and something different compared to the dull one-time fashion shepherds pie. I did 4 pototoes, instead of 2. You lot may want to, depending on if you lot want it to comprehend it all or not. The cheese on top got all dainty and brown. When it was done, put some salt and pepper and bam you lot got yourself a kicked-upward shepherds pie.

This was skilful, a great combination of meat/vegetables/potatoes. Hubby and kids liked information technology. Did need a flake of salt. And I added more than cheese.

I only gave this recipe three stars because mine came out very boring and unflavorful. I recollect the reason is that I didn't mash the potatoes with milk and butter every bit I normally practice. I simply mashed boiled potatoes and smeared them on top of the meat mix. Had I used milk and butter I think the recipe would've been outstanding. I wasn't clear on what to exercise with the mashed potatoes, but I recommend using butter, for certain.

Loved this! And it was for once right on with the serving size! I added cooked carrots, merely besides that followed the recipe to a T - and I'm glad I did! I will definitely brand this once again and then I can play around with more than ingredients!

This a very proficient and quick recipe - like shooting fish in a barrel to adapt if you lot don't accept the specific ingredients that it calls for. I, similar other reviewers, added some extras: salt, pepper, worcesteshire sauce and actress veggies. I didn't accept any potatoes on mitt, then I used a iv-serving portion of instant mashed potatoes. My kids haven't eaten annihilation like this earlier and they loved it.

My husband loved information technology! He ate it all!

First-class base recipe. Changed in the following way: Used fresh basil, allspice also tripled the mashed potatoes. Used combination of corn, carrots and beans - close to two cups for veggies. Also used romanos marinaRa sauce instead of tomatoes

This was a corking oversupply pleaser (my family!) They enjoyed it thoroughly. Information technology was actually easy to prepare. I added a few things in response from the other reviewers (worsch. sauce, spices, etc) But yous really can't go incorrect with basis beef and veggies! This is a keeper! Thanks!

Adding carrots, greenish beans, corn and diced tomatoes with olive oil and oregano , celery and threw in a couple of beefiness boullion cubes makes this dish soooooo flavorful.Made fresh mashed potatoes with alittle chives. Is the best! Family loves this dish!

I used a can of tomato paste and I used some left over mashed potatoes - turned out great!
04/twenty/2002
This was really practiced. I used instant potatoes (enough for half-dozen servings)and didn't add the eggs and water and used mixed vegetables. Everyone liked this and even my picky teenager ate it later picking out the veggies.

This was a good warm repast to have on a cold and rainy nighttime. I folllowed the comments by others and added a tin can of mushroom soup (mine was roasted garlic season) and used a handbag of mixed veggies. It was a hit!
07/22/2011
This is a proficient recipe simply as others I too fabricated some changes. I omitted the tomato and made a gravy with the pan drippings from the ground beef....added peas instead of green beans....added i/2 cup of panko bread crumbs to the footing beefiness. Information technology was a bang-up hit.
05/01/2003
Very tasty. I was in a hurry then I used canned dark-green beans and instant mashed potatos.
02/12/2011
Good, easy and quick recipe to put together!! I omited the tomatoes (I thought that was weird). Next time I will add together a tin can of cream of mush soup and will double the potatoes, and volition probably supersede the light-green beans with corn, but to mix it up! We will make this once more....
11/20/2001
Not much flavor - much better the second dark. Next fourth dimension I would add more veggies and I agree with the others to add together more than potatoes. I probably will as well add something to the potatoes such every bit sour foam and extra butter.
